Dixie House – Singapore When starting my search for accommodation in Singapore I looked on places like agoda.com etc and it became clear that this place ain’t cheap! Basic hotel rooms started at $150+ and it wasn’t anything fancy. When we were paying 2/3rds of that for a private 3 bedroom Villa in Thailand you get spoilt 😛 I thought I would check out Air B’n’B to see if there was something suitable, I found quite a few places all over singapore but Dixie House couldn’t be beaten for price and location. The reviews were great so I contacted Rupak, the owner of this 3 bedroom unit. He got back to me very quickly and by that afternoon I had booked the room for $60AUS a night!  The unit is located on the 3rd/top floor, there is only steps to access it but they are fine. You are given a key to come and go as you like, plus the bedroom has its own lock so you can feel secure about leaving your belongings. The location is great, its a stones throw from a traditional indian restaurant, well hundreds of them given you are IN Little India 😛 If you enjoy indian cuisine, far out brussel sprout, its DAMN GOOD! Generally priced around $8AUS for a curry and rice.  Back to the unit, the room is located at the back of the unit on the opposite end to Rupak and his housemates room so you feel quite private in the room. It opens into the kitchen then flows on to the bathroom and living room area. Rupak kindly offers simple food items like breakfast cereals, bread, milk and cold water which is handy when you have kids who wake up bright and early. There is free fast internet with all the passwords and info printed out in the room. There is air con and a pedestal fan, we slept very comfortably on the double bed, although Steven was a bit squished. Juliet had a thin mattress with a yoga couch type thing on top, it was a bit firm but she slept fine, wouldn’t recommend to anyone who was a bit of a princess 😉  The room is set up specifically for Air B’N’B guests. It all runs very smoothly! I would recommend this room HIGHLY for couples or singles travelling to Singapore, as a family it would depend on the ages of children and the privacy you want. We were out every day, all day so only there of an evening and morning so having Iggy there wasn’t an issue but if you had a toddler and planned to ‘hang’ around the apartment there is probably a few things they could get into or break.  As a family travelling on a budget this is a perfect place to rest your head and keep yourself central!  9/10 Kinda Family Friendly
